As reported by Mr. White:For the third time in four years, LHS Mock Trial will be competing for the State Championship in the Elite Eight in Lawrenceville, GA on March 4th. This year’s LHS Mock Trial team defeated every team in its Valdosta Region for the 8th consecutive year to advance to the District Championships in Macon on February 18th.
This year’s District Competition format had to be changed as a result of the devastation suffered in the Albany Area during last month’s tornadoes. This year’s District competition was held in Macon and pitted three Regions(Valdosta/Macon/Savannah) against each other instead of two. LHS received the first round bye as a result of being the top ranked team from the three Regions.
In the Semi-Finals LHS sent Central High School to the house while LHS garnered all four of the individual awards in the round. Alyssa Hewett and Shelby Parks earned Best Attorneys in their respective courtrooms while Luke Watson and Rachel Wolverton earned Best Witness awards in their respective courtrooms leading the LHS team to the District Championship round against Middle Georgia Christian Home School Association.
LHS won both courtrooms, dismissing the Home Schoolers, while picking up three of the four individual awards in the Championship round. Rachel Wolverton again won Best Witness(her 5th this season) while Kalaysia Kier earned her first. Alyssa Hewett also earned her 4th Best Attorney Award in the round sending LHS to the Elite Eight in Lawrenceville.
Coaches Michael and Michelle White can’t seem to brag enough about their Freshman this year. “We are starting 7 Freshman in the 14 starting spots.” We have never done that in the past.” Michael White said.
Michelle White added “Our Freshman have broken every record the LHS Mock Trial Team had this year. The future certainly looks bright for these young academic athletes. I am so proud of them.”
