Senior Information and Guidelines for Graduation 2018

I. Commencement Practice and Exercise

A. Commencement practice will be Friday, May 25, 2018 from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM at LHS.
You should make plans now to be present for the entire practice. Practice will begin in
the cafeteria and move to the stadium.

B. All graduates are required to attend the commencement practice and exercise. Only the
principal can excuse a graduate from these activities.

C. The graduation ceremony is a serious, although exciting, event. Students should report to
practice and commencement in an appropriate frame of mind and with a positive attitude.

D. The commencement program will be Saturday, May 26, 2018, at 8:30 A.M. in Martin Stadium.
Graduates are to report to the cafeteria at 7:00 A.M. and remain there until the march to
the stadium.

II. Senior Examinations

A. Final examinations are required of all students except those qualified for exemptions in courses
without a state-mandated end-of-course test. Grades and attendance through May 17 will be
used to determine exemption status.

B. Senior exams will be given on Friday, May 18, 2018. Seniors should make sure that all
class work is completed by Friday, May 18, 2018.

III. Dress Requirements for Commencement

A. All graduates will wear the official Lowndes High School cap and gown provided by Jostens
Company. Hanging the gown on a clothes hanger several days prior to graduation will
eliminate wrinkles. The gown should not be ironed.

B. Girls should wear black dress shoes (no tennis shoes, boots, or flip-flops), a dark, solid-colored
dress (no jeans or shorts) and very little or no jewelry. Girls will not wear the white collar that
comes with the graduation gown.

C. Boys should wear dark dress shoes (no tennis shoes, boots, or flip-flops), dark socks, navy
blue, black, or khaki dress pants (no jeans or shorts), and a white, collared shirt with dark tie.

D. Although shoes for both boys and girls should be dressy, graduates should remember that
comfortable shoes will make the march from the cafeteria to the stadium more pleasant.

E. Only school approved honor cords, stoles, or medals may be worn during. No other
accessories are allowed. VIP teachers and line marshals will check for dress code.

IV. General Information

A. All fines, fees, lost textbooks, etc., should be cleared by Friday, May 11, 2018.

B. Graduates who are attending college in Georgia should submit a request for a final transcript
through Georgia Futures. Students attending an out of state college request a final transcript
through the Guidance Office.

C. Diplomas will be issued by homeroom teachers in the cafeteria after the graduation ceremony.

D. The staff of Lowndes High School expects the graduation ceremony to be dignified and
memorable. Graduates should behave in an appropriate manner before, during, and after the

and on the day of graduation and will be mailed approximately one week after graduation. Contact
