Sol Summerlin, Parker Mathis Learning Center Director

I have served in administration since 1998 and have been an administrator in grades K-12.  I have served as an elementary assistant principal, middle school principal and director of the 9th Grade Freshman Academy at Lowndes High. I look forward to bringing my diverse experiences to the Parker Mathis Learning Center.

I came to Lowndes County in 2006 where I served as an assistant principal at Lowndes High. My primary role at Lowndes High was Director of the Freshman Academy. In this position, I led the learning environment for the teachers and students of the Freshman Academy by facilitating teacher leadership, Learning Focused School strategies, and standards-based instruction.

In 2009, I opened Pine Grove Middle School.  During my tenure at PGM, I instituted multiple programs to assist students. Highlights from those programs included: Academic Grade Repair (grade 6-8), Focused Intervention Group (grades 6-8), Writing Instructional Extension (8th grade), 8.5 Courses and the Accelerated Writing Group.  During my tenure as Principal at PGM the school received the following accolades: Breakthrough Middle School GASSBA (top ten finalists for state of Georgia), AYP both years, top writing scores Coastal Plans District 2010-11, top CRCT scores Coastal Plans District 2010-11.

I grew up in Atkinson County where my dad S.A. still resides. My wife, Karen, is a Language Arts teacher at Lowndes High. We have five children ranging from ages 6 to 20. I enjoy spending time with my family, being outdoors, and traveling.
