CSI LabC.S.I. Lab - Culinary Scene Investigation - This was an activity meant to engage students in a fun way to review proper safety and sanitation procedures in the kitchen. Mrs. Boswell set up the Nutrition and Food Science kitchen lab like a crime scene with various hazards all around the room. Students were "investigators" and had to search for, identify, and then classify at least 40 different safety and sanitation hazards involving: food temperature, cross contamination, falls, burns/fires, electrical shock, cuts, and knife safety. The application of concepts learned in the classroom prepares students to be successful in cooking labs, in the kitchen at home, and even in the future in careers such as that of a restaurateur or health inspector.
