To the Class of 2020,
Please know the faculty and staff of Lowndes High School have been thinking of you all during this difficult time. While this situation has presented challenges for everyone, I know the Class of 2020 will become even stronger! Your hard work and dedication will not go unnoticed, and we will celebrate together as soon as possible. This letter is to share with you the status of several Senior events.
We appreciate your understanding that many of the decisions to be made about events for the Class of 2020 are dependent upon guidance we receive over the next several weeks from our state leaders and health officials. The safety and well-being of our students, faculty, families, and community is everyone’s top priority.

Senior course work:
Seniors must still meet all State requirements for graduation including the number of credits earned and satisfactory completion (grade of 70) of all required courses. Please refer to the LHS Student Learning Plan letter dated April 10, 2020, for additional information regarding student course grades. If you have questions regarding your status for graduation, please email your guidance counselor. If you are failing a course required for graduation, please contact your teacher immediately via email to develop a plan of action.

A Commencement ceremony will be held to celebrate this important accomplishment for the Class of 2020. The date of the ceremony remains to be determined at this time. Our goal is to hold Graduation as scheduled or as soon as possible thereafter. If the date is changed, we will provide adequate time for school officials, parents, and students to make necessary arrangements. Please note, the date of Graduation will be determined by the safety and wellness guidelines put forth by state leaders and health officials.

Senior Graduation Supplies and Cap & Gown Orders:
We have tentatively arranged a drive-through pick-up with Jostens for Senior supplies and cap & gown orders. Jostens will be following all designated safety protocols. Pick-up dates will be in the morning on April 24th and May 1st, 2020. Student reporting times and safety/logistic
details will be shared later next week. For the safety of all participants, no payments will be accepted at the drive-through event. Please visit www.gagrad.com to pay your balance with a debit or credit card. To place an order with Jostens, please email Jostens at jernigan.office@jostens.com

Honor Graduates -- Stoles and Honor Cords:
Honor Graduate status will be determined at the Progress Report 3rd 9-weeks and again at the end of the school year. Details regarding the purchasing of cords will follow shortly. Honor graduate stoles, honor cords, and other commendations will be presented to Seniors at the
Class of 2020 Honors Night.

Golden Apples:
Honor Graduates will select an LHS faculty or staff member upon which to bestow this honor. Additional details regarding this ceremony will be sent shortly to Honor Graduates via student email.

Senior Parade:
This tradition, albeit very different from what we have done before, will still be held! The date and time is still to be determined. Teachers are working on a variety of possible options. As with all events, the Senior Parade will be determined by the safety and wellness guidelines put
forth by state leaders and health officials. Stay tuned!

Honors Night:
A Class of 2020 Honors Night will be held in conjunction with Graduation. The tentative plan is to schedule Honors Night on the Thursday evening prior to the Commencement ceremony. Senior scholarship recipients, Honor Graduates, and other members of the Class of 2020 to be recognized at the Class of 2020 Honors Night will be notified in advance regarding details.

We appreciate the hard work of the Junior Class to prepare for the Junior & Senior Prom. Unfortunately, Prom has been cancelled for this school year. We know Seniors are disappointed; however, we will do our utmost to provide other memorable occasions for the Class of 2020 as we are able to do so.

Community Service Forms:
Seniors who have not turned in their Community Service Forms may do so by photographing their form and emailing it to Mrs. Page at caseypage@lowndes.k12.ga.us Students may also drop-off their form at one of the Learning Packet pick-up sites listed in the Learning Plan letter
dated April 10, 2020. Students completing a minimum of 75 hours will receive a medallion to wear at Graduation.

Grad Bash and other school field trips:
All theme parks in Florida have been temporarily closed due to COVID19. Please email Mrs. Andrea Inman at andreainman@lowndes.k12.ga.us for details regarding refund of
payments for Grad Bash. All other scheduled field trips have been cancelled as well. For more information, please contact your teacher, coach, or sponsor.

Senior Obligations:
All outstanding financial obligations will need to be paid prior to Graduation. Additionally, students will need to return all school property such as uniforms, textbooks, instruments, etc.  We will send additional information at a later date regarding the payment for obligations as well
as a plan for the return of school property.

Yearbook Distribution:
Our dedicated LHS Yearbook staff successfully submitted the Yearbook for production the weekof March 9th!! We anticipate that our copies will be shipped sometime in May; however, this will depend upon operations at the production facility and shipping lines. Once we are in possession
of the Yearbooks, we will distribute them as soon as we are able to do so. Distribution will be based on directives from state and local leaders as well as health officials following all safety protocols. If you would like to purchase a Yearbook, it is not too late! Revtrak and the online School Store are still in operation. Payments can be made by credit or debit card.

Other Support for Students and Families:
With financial stress from job losses, anxiety related to concerns surrounding this virus, and grief issues many people will face, the need for emotional support will exponentially increase. Please know we are here for you. Students, please email your counselor. For families, the
Georgia COVID Emotional Support Line provides 24/7 free and confidential assistance to callers needing emotional support or resource information as a result of the COVID19 pandemic. To talk with someone at the COVID Emotional Support Line, please call 866-399-8938.

Please be sure to visit https://one.lowndes.k12.ga.us information on meal distribution sites and answers to frequently asked questions.

Students, we have tried to address as many questions or concerns as possible. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding. These decisions are not easy ones to make in an ever-changing environment. We are working diligently to support you as we look forward to eventually celebrating, all together, the Class of 2020!
