Things got a little spicy in Geometry today! 🌶️📐

Mrs. Hudson’s and Ms. Harrison’s classes turned their central angles review into a full-blown fiesta. Students tackled practice worksheets at three levels of heat: Mild, Medium, and Spicy! To keep the brain power flowing, they enjoyed some chips and salsa while vibing to upbeat salsa music. Who knew math could taste this good? 💃chips

Mrs. Harris’ Allied Health Class had the opportunity to tour SGMC Health’s state of the art Simulation Lab which is part of their medical education and residency partnership with Mercer School of Medicine. Students were able to practice real life scenarios and use real medical equipment in the simulation lab to practice skills just like Medical School students. We also got to learn more about SGMC Health, volunteer and shadowing opportunities available to students and were privileged to tour several departments. Thank you to SGMC Health for providing an amazing learning opportunity for our students.

Huge wins for the LHS Literary Team! 🏆

Our team headed to the 6A State Literary Competition this past Saturday, and they definitely brought their A-game. Please join us in celebrating these incredible individual achievements:

Anita Bandhakavi: 🥇 STATE CHAMPION in International Extemporaneous Speaking! Taking home the top spot in one of the toughest categories out there.

Dylan Barr: 🥈 STATE RUNNER-UP in Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking! An unbelievable finish for her very first year of competition.

We are so proud of the hard work, research, and "Fine Arts muscle" these students put into their craft. Way to represent LHS! 🦁✨

From Show Choir to Concert Style… The Viking Cantors are finishing out an incredibly busy week with Superior ratings for their performance at GMEA’s Large Group Performance Evaluation, hosted by Coffee County High School.

We are extremely proud of this group of singers — not only for their hard work and dedication, but also for their ability to adapt and maintain healthy vocal technique through a variety of singing styles. Additionally, they continue to represent the best of LHS with their good behavior and sheer classiness!

Many of these students will hop off of a bus and move directly into rehearsal for our upcoming spring musical production of My Fair Lady. Don’t miss it!!! We open next Thursday with shows nightly March 19 — 21 @ 7:00PM in the LHS PAC!

Lowndes High FFA traveled to the University of Georgia Tifton Campus yesterday, where three students competed in Leadership Development Events.

Graycee Brewer, a 9th-grade student, competed in the finals of the FFA Creed Speaking event. After advancing through a preliminary round, Graycee performed exceptionally well and was narrowly edged out by strong competition in the final round.

Avery Stidham, also a 9th grader, competed in the FFA Discussion Meet and delivered an outstanding performance as a first-year competitor. She was ultimately bested by two seniors who are expected to be strong contenders at the state level.

Kensley Dodson, a 12th-grade student, competed in the Senior Prepared Public Speaking Leadership Development Event with her speech titled “The Opioid Crisis in Agriculture.” Kensley advanced confidently through the first round and secured the area championship in the final round, narrowly defeating a familiar competitor she has faced each year since the 8th grade. This victory marks the culmination of seven years of competing in this event, where she previously earned 2nd- and 3rd-place finishes.

We look forward to seeing Kensley represent LHS at the state contest next month in Macon.

Fueling the team that keeps us running! 🍳

This morning, Lowndes High had the distinct honor of hosting a thank-you breakfast for our incredible Lowndes County Schools Maintenance Team.

From keeping the lights on and the AC humming to ensuring our facilities are safe and beautiful, these dedicated professionals work tirelessly behind the scenes. We know that a smooth school day doesn't happen by accident—it happens because of their hard work and expertise. 🛠️

It was a small token of our huge appreciation for everything they do for our students, staff, and the entire Viking family.

Last week, Mrs. Bodrey’s Food Science classes learned all about the delicious world of chemistry in food! 🧪✨ Our amazing students took their seat-work into the kitchen to see science in action. 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳

Check out what we whipped up:

Homemade Ice Cream 🍨 (A total chill factor!)
Hand-shaken Butter 🧈 (Work those muscles! 💪)
Fresh Biscuits 🥐 (The perfect way to test our butter!)

Students were able to showcase physical and chemical changes in food 🔬, as well as demonstrate the differences in mixtures. These students are proving that the kitchen is the best laboratory! 🏫💛

🏆 A Historic Debut for the Viking Cantors!
The stage was set, the lights were bright, and The Viking Cantors absolutely crushed it! This past Saturday, our talented performers made their competitive show choir DEBUT at the Peach State Show Choir Invitational, and we couldn't be prouder of the results.

🥈 2nd Place: Small Mixed Division
Going up against six powerhouse schools from across Georgia and Alabama, our Cantors held their own and brought home the silver! To say we are "proud" is a massive understatement—this group showed incredible heart and talent. The Cantors are directed by Dr. Jennifer McQuade and the show was coreographed by Ms. Hannah Brewton.

🗓️ See the Award-Winning Show One Last Time!
Missed the competition? Want to see the magic again? Join us for the LHS Choirs’ Spring Concert!

🦑 Deep Dive Into Dissection Day!
Our Zoology students went under the surface to explore the fascinating anatomy of the mollusk family. Specifically, they got hands-on with the squid, uncovering the specialized structures that make these cephalopods such effective underwater hunters.

Check out what they identified:
-Mantle: The muscular "cape" that protects the internal organs.
-Siphon: The jet-propulsion engine that allows for rapid escapes.
-Beak: A sharp, parrot-like tool used to bite into prey.
-Arms & Tentacles: The difference is all in the grip! (Arms have suckers all along, while tentacles only have them at the tips).
-Ink Sac: The ultimate smoke screen for a quick getaway.

Science is definitely better when it’s hands-on! 🧪🧬

Have you noticed the hallways filled with the delightful smell of fresh brownies baking? 🍫✨
Behind that delicious scent is a whole team of hardworking Life Skills students making it all happen! From carefully measuring ingredients and following multi-step recipes to practicing kitchen safety, teamwork, packaging, and preparing items for sale in the Crimson Cafe.

They’re not just baking brownies…
They’re building math skills through measuring and budgeting, strengthening reading skills by following recipes, developing communication and teamwork, and gaining valuable job-readiness experience.

We are so proud of the dedication and responsibility they show behind the scenes to bring these sweet treats to our school community. The next time you stop by for a brownie, know you’re supporting hands-on learning, confidence, and real-world skill development.

Thank you for supporting our amazing students! 💛☕
