Due to the extreme weather event that just moved through Valdosta, LHS Off-Broadway has moved its previously scheduled Thursday evening performance of SIX: The Musical - Teen Edition to Sunday, January 26 at 3:00 PM. **For anyone who has already purchased a ticket for the Thursday-evening performance, please know that we will honor those tickets at ANY of the other performances (Friday @ 7pm, Saturday @ 7pm or Sunday @ 3pm) in the LHS PAC. The safety of our staff and students is always our top priority. With the current forecast and road conditions, we do not consider it safe for buses and vehicles to be on the road Thursday morning.
According to Lowndes EMA, the forecasted temperature at noon is 32 degrees. Between Noon and 1 PM, the temperature is expected to rise above freezing and peak at 36 degrees around 4 PM., dropping back to freezing at 7 PM. The wind chill factor will stay below freezing all day. This gives us only about 6 hours of above-freezing temperatures. Six hours will not be enough time to allow all the snow and ice to melt and dry out. The hazard could be increased if the snow melts and the freezing results in black ice, which is less visible, creating a false sense of security; ice creates more dangerous driving conditions than snow.
Lowndes County EMA and the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office continue to encourage residents to stay off the roads until icy conditions dissipate, which is likely to be Thursday afternoon or later. The Amazing Shake kicked off its first training session this semester with Ms. Lisa Jarvis from Conger LP Gas. She led an engaging session, speaking about networking opportunities and giving the students a chance to test their skills.
The Amazing Shake competition will take place on Saturday, March 1st. It’s not too late to join!

Mrs. White’s Economics students practiced Production Possibility Curves by making specific play-doh shapes. Each timed round, students worked with their team to collect data, then adjust factors of production, division of labor, and specialization for potential increase in efficiency and productivity. They demonstrated their findings by creating their own production possibility curve. #OneLowndes #BetterTogether

We want you to know that we have been closely monitoring Winter Storm Demi and have been in contact with Lowndes EMA and other officials. With the storm’s timing, there are no anticipated threats during school hours on Tuesday, so we will have school on Tuesday, January 21st.
All after-school activities on Tuesday will end by 5:00 pm, including Prime Time. The Lowndes versus Colquitt basketball game is postponed.
However, with the chance of ice and possible snow on the roads Wednesday morning, and the safety of our staff and students being our top priority, we have made the decision to close all Lowndes County Schools and System offices Wednesday, January 22nd.
We look forward to seeing your student at school tomorrow and encourage you to stay safe and warm on Wednesday!

Mrs. Smith’s AP US Government and Politics classes started the semester off with an activity called Gummy Governments! Students explored other types of governments before diving into the study of US government. Students collaborated to create gummy bear models of both international governments and elements of the US government system to demonstrate their understanding.
