Our LHS chapter of Mu Alpha Theta had a spectacular time touring the Georgia Tech campus this past week! Dr. Cam Tyson (an LHS alumni) always ensures a thorough and engaging experience for our math club students when we visit Georgia Tech. The day consisted of a tour of the Kendeda sustainable living building (which must generate at least 105% of its annual energy needs through on‐site renewable energy), a peek into an intro Calculus lab, a demonstration in a neuroscience lab and much more. A highlight of our visit was lunch with a group of recent LHS graduates who now attend Ga Tech and provided our students some nuggets of wisdom to ensure success at the college level.

We are so grateful for such a loving community within Lowndes High School. Ms.Banks' and Mrs. Niehanke's 1st block got the pleasure of working with Miss Beall's Foundations of Engineering & Technology students to design, build, and launch model gliders using materials like manila folders and paper clips. The Skimmer Project focuses on precision measurements to achieve maximum distance and our students loved getting to be a part of this fun activity today.

Students in the Life Skills program are beginning the new year with a unit titled Healthy Hygiene, Healthy Me. Through the generosity of the Greater Valdosta United Way and a classroom grant awarded to Ms. Smith, students now have access to a convenient grab-and-go hygiene program. This initiative provides essential resources that support real-life scenarios and reinforce meaningful, practical lessons.

From 2D drawings to 3D friends! 👾✨
Ms. Elmore’s Lit 1 class made a magical return to Westside Elementary on Monday, 12/15. Our high schoolers delivered a very special surprise to the Little Vikings in Mrs. Robinson and Mrs. McDowell’s first grade classes.
Earlier this semester, the first graders read If Your Monster Won’t Go to Bed by Denise Vega and drew their own bedtime monsters. Thanks to a generous LEIF grant-- and the incredible craftsmanship of From Sue with Love,-- those drawings were brought to life as custom 3D plushies!
But the storytelling didn't stop there. Ms. Elmore's students also wrote and illustrated original books for each class, so the first graders can now read to their new monster friends.
We are so proud of the creativity and mentorship shown by our students!

LHS students in Life Skills classes are able to earn "money" through positive behavior as part of their math instruction. Each student has a virtual bank account where they can manage their money, view transactions, and practice money skills. Students are able to purchase items for themselves from the class store with their money. This week, Ms. Smith's class store was transformed into a Grinch themed Holiday Shopping Event! Students were able to purchase items for their family members during this season of giving. Mrs. Niehanke's culinary students showed off their baking skills by providing snacks and hot chocolate. We had fun shopping, snacking, and spending time with our friends!
